Police propose autorickshaw drivers’ committee to address development demands

Autorickshaw drivers’ union leaders recently met with senior police officers in Kozhikode to discuss development priorities. The police have proposed a district-level coordination committee comprising autorickshaw drivers to prioritize development needs through discussions and expedite project implementation. The committee aims to have equal representation from various trade union functionaries. The Assistant Commissioner of Police emphasized the need for a coordinated panel to take swift action on pending projects. One of the primary demands from drivers’ unions is the creation of more dedicated parking bays for autorickshaws. Despite challenges faced by drivers, they have called off planned protests after receiving assurances from the police. The establishment of dedicated parking bays requires support from the City Corporation and approval from the Motor Vehicles department.
