Local panchayats in Thiruvananthapuram are working together to increase flower production for the upcoming Onam festival. They have planted chrysanthemum saplings on six acres of land, aiming for a yield of over seven tonnes this year. The flowers will be sold at a lower price than the market rate, with the help of Kudumbashree workers for distribution. A collective including ward members, Kudumbashree workers, and farmers is overseeing the project. They are also looking into future ventures like vegetable cultivation and making traditional ornaments. The initiative aims to provide affordable flowers to the public and prevent price hikes during the festive season.
