The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has declared that actor-turned-politician M Mukesh will continue as an MLA despite facing rape charges. The party’s state secretary stated that there is no need for resignation and a decision will be made after the court delivers its verdict. Mukesh has denied the allegations, claiming they stem from blackmail attempts. The charges were filed by a female actor who accused him of sexual assault in 2010. Several other Malayalam film personalities are also facing similar charges following the release of the Hema Committee report, which highlighted harassment and exploitation of women in the industry.
