MP John Brittas protests ‘Hindi-only’ replies from Centre, responds to Govt communication in Malayalam

CPM Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas has raised concerns about the Union Government providing replies only in Hindi to MPs, which goes against language regulations and hampers the effectiveness of non-Hindi-speaking members. Brittas wrote a letter in Malayalam to Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh in protest. He shared the minister’s letters in Hindi and his reply in Malayalam on social media to highlight the issue. Brittas emphasized the importance of using English for official purposes as per the Official Languages Act, 1963, to ensure effective communication in Parliament. He expressed his inability to read Hindi and urged the minister to respect linguistic diversity by responding in English or Malayalam.
