Members of AMMA mooted trade union for actors, confirms FEFKA

Actor Mohanlal and filmmaker B. Unnikrishnan were pictured together during a meeting of The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA). Some members of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) have approached FEFKA to explore forming an actors’ trade union. AMMA is currently without elected office bearers after a resignation due to sexual harassment allegations. B. Unnikrishnan confirmed the members’ interest in forming a trade union but stated that it would not lead to division in AMMA. There are conflicting responses from former executive committee members of AMMA regarding this move. Affiliation with FEFKA would require approval from the general council. Wage disparity among actors is not seen as a hindrance to forming a trade union, as seen in Bollywood.
