Medical shop in Kochi accused of selling prescription drugs over the counter

A medical shop in Kadavanthra was caught selling prescription drugs without a prescription during a raid conducted by the Excise special squad and Drugs Control department in Kochi. The shop was found to be selling Tramadol tablets, a highly abused drug, in large quantities without any documentation. Spasmonil tablets and OCB cigarette rolling papers, also commonly abused, were found to be sold without prescriptions as well. The shop owner has multiple shops in the district, all of which will be inspected for similar illegal practices. Possessing Tramadol without a prescription is a serious offence punishable by imprisonment. The authorities have issued a notice to the shop and will take stern action, including suspension of the shop’s license. Excise is investigating to track down those who purchased the drugs from the shop.
