Mavoor grama panchayat in Kozhikode district has recently elected its fourth president in less than four years. Congress leader V. Abdul Rasak has been chosen as the new head of the UDF-ruled local body after the resignation of the previous president, K.C. Vasanthi Vijayan. The election saw Mr. Rasak receiving 11 votes, while the Left Democratic Front candidate, C. Nandini, got seven votes. This frequent turnover in leadership is due to internal differences within the Congress party. The post was previously held by P. Ummer of the Indian Union Muslim League and T. Ranjith of the Revolutionary Marxist Party.
