Legal tangle likely over Chancellor’s order in Calicut varsity

A member of the pro-Left Syndicate at the University of Calicut has taken the Kerala High Court against Governor and Chancellor Arif Mohammed Khan’s directive to reinstate an instrumentation engineer who was demoted following an internal inquiry by the Syndicate. The Vice-Chancellor, P. Raveendran, is reportedly planning to follow the Chancellor’s order. The legal battle revolves around the demotion of T. Mohammed Sajid, the instrumentation engineer, for causing financial losses to the university. The Syndicate proposed his demotion and recovery of funds, but the Chancellor ordered his reinstatement. The Vice-Chancellor sought legal advice, but pro-Left members objected. Ultimately, it was decided that the Chancellor’s order should be implemented, as per the university’s statutes.
