The Kerala State Electricity Board has decided to increase the minimum distance for quarrying activities near power substations and electric supply lines to 300m, in line with guidelines from the Central Electricity Authority. This decision was made after feedback from field officers highlighted the potential damage quarry activities could cause to tower structures and equipment. The board had previously relaxed the distance to 100m, but has now decided to strictly adhere to the CEA guidelines to prevent damage to tower foundations, insulators, and other equipment. The decision is in line with CEA regulations and amendments that prohibit blasting within 300m of substations or transmission lines above 650V.
