Kollam Collectorate blast: Kerala court sentences three to life term

In 2016, a low-intensity explosive device was detonated at the Collectorate premises in Kollam, Kerala. Three individuals from Tamil Nadu were found guilty of the crime and sentenced to life in prison along with a fine. The explosion was orchestrated by members of Base Movement, an outfit allegedly supporting Al-Qaeda, using an improvised explosive device hidden in a tiffin box. Despite no casualties, one person was seriously injured. The trio was arrested by the National Investigation Agency in 2017. The prosecution argued for maximum punishment, while the accused pleaded for leniency citing their time served in prison. The court found Karim Raja had visited Kollam before the blast and planned the attack from Madurai.
