On October 28, 2024, the Additional Sessions Court I in Palakkad sentenced two men to life imprisonment for the honour killing of Aneesh, who had married one of the men’s daughters. The court found Prabhu Kumar and Suresh guilty of threatening and murdering Aneesh, who belonged to a lower caste, for marrying an upper-caste woman. The men attacked Aneesh with an iron rod and a blade, causing his death. Aneesh’s family expressed dissatisfaction with the verdict and planned to appeal for a harsher punishment. The convicted men appeared nonchalant during the sentencing.
