Kerala’s ADGP Ajith Kumar arrives at Police headquarters to answer accusations levelled against him

On September 12, 2024, Additional Director General of Police, M.R. Ajith Kumar, faced accusations of clandestine meetings with top RSS leaders, illegal wealth accumulation, unlawful phone tapping, criminal activity, and nepotism. The government ordered a high-level probe in response to criticism from ruling front allies and the Opposition. The CPI demanded action against Mr. Ajith Kumar and warned that his continuation in office could cast doubt on the investigation’s integrity. The UDF Opposition tied the controversy to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, alleging that he sacrificed allies’ demands for political reasons. The meeting between ADGP and RSS leaders has raised concerns about Hindu majoritarian politics in Kerala.
