Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has requested the Union Railway Ministry to provide fair compensation to the families of the five sanitary workers who tragically lost their lives in two separate rail-related accidents in Kerala. He also urged the Ministry to ensure the safety of contract workers under the Railways. The recent incident involved four workers from Tamil Nadu who were hit by a train while collecting garbage on the railway track. Another worker drowned while cleaning a canal a few months ago. The Chief Minister emphasized the need for better safety measures and training for contract workers. Southern Railways has terminated the contractor responsible for the track cleaning and offered financial assistance to the victims’ families.
