Kerala man dies of suspected ‘brain-eating’ amoeba infection



A 38-year-old man from Kerala has died from suspected amoebic meningoencephalitis, a rare infection caused by an amoeba called Naegleria fowleri. The man, who had returned home from Mumbai after falling ill, was initially treated at a hospital in Kasaragod before being transferred to Kannur where he was diagnosed with the infection. He was treated with medication and further tests are being done to confirm the cause of death. This incident is part of a larger outbreak in Kerala, with 19 confirmed cases and five deaths from the brain infection reported over the past five months.
