The Kerala High Court recently allowed a fourth-year student at NIT-C, Ben Thomas, to participate in the institute’s convocation despite being barred due to fines imposed for attending a protest event. The student was fined around ₹6 lakh for participating in a boycott that disrupted campus functioning. The court intervened, stating that there was no finalization of disciplinary proceedings against the student and no quantification of the amount owed after a proper inquiry. The court also directed Mr. Thomas to produce a bank guarantee equal to the amount claimed by the institute.
