The Kerala government is considering the possibility of creating a new law or legal mechanism specifically for addressing issues in the cinema field, according to Minister for Culture Saji Cherian. The government is seeking input from the Law department on this matter and is looking into how to introduce these mechanisms alongside existing laws. In response to concerns that the internal complaints committee may not be sufficient for cinema-related issues, Cherian mentioned the potential for an independent mechanism to complement it. The government is also working on a comprehensive film policy, with a conclave planned for its development. A special investigation team has been formed to investigate allegations from the Hema Committee report, and the government is committed to taking legal action and supporting the victims. Cherian refuted claims that the government had delayed action on the Hema Committee report, emphasizing that inaction on sexual crimes is punishable.
