Kerala CM Calls for 50% Tax Revenue Share from Centre Ahead of Finance Commission Meeting | Thiruvananthapuram News

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of Thiruvananthapuram emphasized the importance of the Centre sharing 50% of the net proceeds with the states from the central pool. He highlighted the increase in surcharges and cesses, which have led to a decrease in the divisible pool of taxes. Vijayan urged finance ministers to formulate a concrete demand for a higher share of taxes for the states before the 16th Finance Commission. He also stressed the need for the Commission to balance the interests of states with low per capita income and those with higher population. Vijayan cited Kerala’s decrease in tax share from previous finance commissions and called for a fair distribution formula considering states’ efforts in health, education, and demographics.
