Kerala Assembly unanimously passes resolution against simultaneous election plan

The ruling CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the Opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala Assembly passed a resolution demanding the Union Government to withdraw the ‘one nation, one election’ plan. They argued that it is undemocratic, against Constitutional values, and would centralize power, weakening State legislatures and local self-government institutions. The move to hold simultaneous elections is seen as an attempt to destroy India’s diversity and insult the people who elected their representatives. The recommendation to synchronize elections with the Lok Sabha polls is harmful to the federal structure and challenges the mandate of the people.
