The Kerala Space Park (K-Space) authorities have proposed to the state government to set up an Integrated Defence Industrial Park (IDIP) near Thiruvananthapuram. The project aims to attract a Rs 1,000-crore investment and create job opportunities by housing manufacturing units for defence-related products. The proposal is currently under review by the electronics and IT department, with funding expected through government schemes. The completion of the project is estimated to take 24 months, pending approval for the transfer of land to BrahMos Aerospace Ltd from the home department. Construction of the Space Park is set to begin in April, funded by a Rs 241 crore loan from Nabard.
