The Kerala Janakeeya Prathirodha Samithi is urging the state government to revoke the new excise policy, as they believe it is leading to an increase in alcohol production and the opening of new bars and liquor stores. They are particularly concerned about the permission granted to Oasis company for alcohol production in Kanjikode, Palakkad, which they believe will have severe environmental repercussions and deplete clean water sources. The Samithi is calling for a rewrite of the failed alcohol policy and a withdrawal of permission for the distillery in Kanjikode, as well as new bars and beer parlours in various locations. They believe that the transfer of the authority to grant new distillery permissions from local bodies to the state government was done to aid the alcohol mafia.
