The Transport department in the State has made it clear that motorists can use a digital copy of their driving license stored in digilocker or elsewhere during inspections by law enforcement agencies. The government has set a fee structure for digital driving licenses, with fees ranging from ₹50 for a learners test to ₹300 for a driving test. The amended Rule 139 of the CMVR allows for electronic documents to be used for various purposes, including driving licenses. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has outlined procedures for validating electronic transport-related documents. In Kerala, there is a proposal to shift from physical PVC cards to electronic driving licenses, following the lead of other states like Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Assam. The National Informatics Centre’s Sarathy site will facilitate the downloading and printing of digital driving licenses.
