Residents and officials are frustrated with the delay in construction at the Kakkanad extension of the Kochi metro. Many worksites are barricaded but lack men, machinery, and materials. This has led to traffic congestion and safety concerns for pedestrians. Thrikkakara MLA Uma Thomas has raised the issue in the Legislative Assembly and demanded quick action to develop alternative roads. While some widening work is progressing, challenges such as relocating utility posts and court cases are hindering progress. The Kochi Metro Rail Limited is working to meet the 18-month deadline for completing the project. The District Administration is also exploring options to divert traffic and ease congestion.
