CSIR-NIIST transfers onsite wastewater treatment technology to more agencies

The CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST) has transferred its innovative wastewater treatment technology to more agencies. The technology, called NOWA, is an engineered biological treatment system that can recover reuse quality water, bioenergy, and organic manure from wastewater. It has advantages such as requiring less space, infrequent sludge disposal, low electricity consumption, and low operational and maintenance costs. The technology is designed for Indian conditions and is seen as a replacement for imported technologies. The patented technology has been developed by a team of researchers and has already been approved by the Kerala State Suchitwa Mission for use at industrial sites.
