Centre grabbing coastal people’s land to hand it over to corporates, says Meena Kandasamy

Writer-activist Meena Kandasamy criticized the Union government’s Sagarmala programme, calling it a tactic to take coastal people’s land for corporate interests. She joined a 24-hour hunger strike organized by the Chellanam-Kochi Janakeeya Vedhi to protest sea incursion and demand a permanent solution. She also spoke out against the Punargeham project, which she claimed was more of an eviction than relocation. Kandasamy accused the Centre of withholding funds from Kerala and prioritizing BJP-ruled states. She called on the Chief Minister to address the issue of sea level rise and protect people’s land. Overall, she emphasized the importance of safeguarding land and life over industrial development.
