Calicut University senate unlikely to suggest nominee for V-C search panel

The University of Calicut is in the process of selecting a new Vice-Chancellor, with the Senate meeting on September 28 to decide on a nominee for the search-and-selection committee. However, due to political differences, the Left-dominated Senate may not suggest a name to the Chancellor. This situation has occurred in other universities as well. The appointment of V-Cs is done by a committee appointed by the Chancellor, consisting of members nominated by the Senate, Chancellor, and University Grants Commission. The selection process has been controversial, with some appointments leading to legal disputes. Currently, some State universities have in-charge V-Cs. The Kerala High Court has stayed the notification for the selection of V-Cs in certain universities.
