Finance minister K N Balagopal has allocated Rs 4 crore for renovating the dilapidated quarters in the Bonacaud estate. This comes after Rs 10 crore was earmarked in the last budget, with Rs 2 crore already allocated earlier. The remaining unspent fund from the plantation workers relief fund committee will now be used for the renovation. The quarters in BA 1, BA 2, GB, and top divisions of the estate will be covered, with the district construction centre in charge of the work. The estate, which has been inactive since March 2015, has left plantation workers and their families in need of urgent maintenance in their living quarters.
