62 village offices in state to go ‘smart’ | Thiruvananthapuram News

The state government in Thiruvananthapuram is taking steps to modernize rural governance by transforming 62 village offices into smart facilities. This initiative is being funded by the Centre and falls under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment for the fiscal year 2024-25. A substantial amount of Rs 42.90 crore has been allocated for various development projects, with Rs 27.90 crore specifically earmarked for the ‘Construction of Smart Villages and Revenue Offices’ project. This funding will be provided as loans with a repayment period of 50 years, allowing for long-term investments in rural infrastructure. The aim is to create a modern office environment that enhances the efficiency and accessibility of local governance, ultimately improving service delivery and ensuring that all citizens have access to essential administrative services. The transformation of these villages into smart offices is already underway and is part of a broader effort to modernize the state’s 1,670 villages.
