39 cooperative societies in Ernakulam under scanner for alleged irregularities

According to a recent response to a Right to Information application, thirty-nine cooperative societies in Ernakulam are under investigation for alleged irregularities. Additionally, nineteen societies have ongoing court cases and twelve are currently being investigated. The response also revealed that four societies had their governing committees dismissed and action was taken against the director board members of five societies. The response did not have a compiled report of the cases against the societies. Several officials from different societies were either dismissed or suspended for alleged irregularities. Recent arrests in cases involving financial fraud in two urban cooperative societies have brought attention to the issue, with investors forming committees demanding action against those involved in the fraud.
