Vote Jihad: Electoral Authority to Investigate Controversial ‘Vote Jihad’ Comments in Maharashtra |



The state’s electoral watchdog in Mumbai is considering taking action on comments like “vote jihad” made by politicians. They are examining the legal aspects and seeking legal opinion before deciding to forward it to the Election Commission of India. So far, no complaints have been received on the issue since the model code of conduct came into force. The term “vote jihad” was used by deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Prime Minister Modi during the Lok Sabha election. Voters can still register their names in the electoral roll until October 19. There is a proposal to allow mobile phones up to the gate of polling stations, with a possibility of re-thinking this issue.
