A beach clean-up drive at Vettucaud Beach in Kochi gathered 210kg of waste, with a significant amount being plastic items like wrappers, bottles, and bags. Organized by IIST and WWF-India, 125 volunteers worked in 12 teams for two hours, uncovering the extent of plastic pollution. Specific types of plastic waste, like single-use spoons and water bottles, were highlighted as areas of concern. Special plastic collectors were brought in to dispose of the waste properly. The event was part of the Swachhata Campaign 2024, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of keeping our beaches clean.
