Transport utilities set to demand fare hike | Bengaluru News

With the Lok Sabha elections over, state transport corporations like KSRTC are asking the government for permission to increase bus fares by 10-15%. This is necessary to offset the financial impact of the Shakti scheme, which offers free travel for women, and to improve the bus fleet. The government will review the proposals from the corporations before making a decision. The last fare revision was in 2020 for KSRTC and 2014 for BMTC, despite rising operational costs. Due to factors like elections, fare revisions have been delayed. The Shakti scheme has affected the cash flow of corporations, leading to pending dues from the government. The corporations are seeking special grants to cover expenses and manage the financial challenges caused by the pandemic.
