Fourteen officials of Vellore prison, including DIG R. Rajalakshmi, have been accused of forcing prisoners into doing chores at their homes. A judicial magistrate’s report to the Madras high court led to the booking of these officials under various sections of the law. The report was based on allegations made by a murder convict, S Sivakumar, who claimed he was beaten and tortured by the officials. The court directed the prison authorities to take disciplinary action against the accused officials for their misconduct and violation of prison rules.
