Tiger population triples in Assam’s Manas National Park: Study

A new study has found that the tiger population in Manas National Park in western Assam has tripled from 2011 to 2019. This increase is attributed to increased funding, improved protection infrastructure, and a larger staff. The growth was also supported by tourism revenue, which helped bolster management budgets. Collaborative efforts from local communities, government, and conservation agencies played a key role in the successful recovery of the tiger population in the park. Despite these positive changes, challenges like poaching and habitat loss still persist, highlighting the need for continuous management focus. The study predicts that the tiger population in the park could double by 2023 if conservation measures remain effective.
