Villagers in Kishan Nagar village in Shadnagar, Rangareddy district have come together to ban the sale and consumption of liquor. Those caught selling liquor will be paraded with a garland of chappals and fined 50,000, while those buying it will be penalised 25,000. The decision was conveyed to the gram panchayat elders and a flex banner was put up listing out the punishments. Villagers believe that banning liquor will promote peace and reduce fights and crime in the village. They have also announced a cash reward for anyone providing information about liquor being sold or consumed. Similar bans have been imposed in two other villages in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district.
