Thane is working on a new project to monitor air quality at a micro-level in every square kilometer of the city. This initiative, called the ‘Air Quality Decision Support System’, will help officials plan ahead and take action to ensure good air quality for residents, especially during winters. The project is being carried out by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) and could be completed by December. The system will use data from satellites and monitoring systems to provide detailed analysis of air quality in different areas of the city. This will help in identifying and addressing any drop in air quality levels in advance. The project aims to improve air quality in Thane, which has been a concern due to factors like vehicular movement and solid waste burning.
