Residents of Kavuri Hills in Hyderabad are disputing the state government’s claims about the size of Durgam Cheruvu lake. The residents believe the lake is only 65 acres, not the 160 acres stated by officials. The Telangana high court has directed irrigation and municipal administration officials to provide accurate lake size information by Sept 23. The court also questioned whether there are laws governing lake boundaries and construction near water bodies. The bench emphasized the need to protect lakes and prevent unauthorized constructions around them. The state government has been asked to clarify its procedures for determining lake boundaries and to follow guidelines set by the Supreme Court.
