Solar Rooftop Power Generation: Govt aims to double power generation on its buildings



The state government in Gandhinagar is focused on increasing solar rooftop power generation from government-owned buildings. They have allocated Rs 177 crore this year for installing solar rooftop systems on government buildings. The state climate change department is overseeing the project, with over 3,000 systems already set up generating 56.8 MW. An additional 48 MW will be installed by 2024-25. Gujarat leads in residential solar rooftop systems, with nearly 7 lakh installations generating 2,744 MW. Residents have saved Rs 3,260 crore on electricity bills and earned Rs 330 crore from selling solar energy. The government has provided over Rs 3,155 crore in subsidies for solar panel installations.
