Six years after decriminalisation of homosexuality in India, NMC reintroduces Lesbianism as sexual offence

The National Medical Commission has made changes to the forensic medicine and toxicology curriculum for medical students, reintroducing topics like ‘sodomy and lesbianism’ as unnatural sexual offences. This move has faced criticism due to the decriminalization of homosexuality in India. The curriculum also includes discussions on various legal competencies and acts related to medical practice. Some topics like disability training have been removed. The NMC aims to create a globally relevant Indian Medical Graduate with the necessary knowledge, skills, and values to serve as a primary care physician effectively. The curriculum is designed to align with global trends and meet the changing needs of the medical field.
