Both Congress and BJP in Bengaluru are facing internal conflicts over candidate selection for the upcoming Shiggaon assembly bypoll. BJP’s decision to field Basavaraj Bommai’s son, Bharath, has caused discontent among party cadres, especially among Panchamasali Lingayats. Bommai’s supporters defend the decision, stating it is natural since the bypoll was triggered by his father’s resignation. However, critics argue that it goes against BJP’s stance against dynastic politics. Congress is also divided over candidate selection, with some factions pushing for a Muslim candidate and others advocating for a Panchamasali candidate. In response to dissent in Sandur, BJP appointed KS Diwakar as party state secretary after overlooking him for the party ticket in the by-election.
