A senior citizen in Hyderabad lodged a complaint against Sahara India Limited for not releasing her fixed deposit amount of 7 lakh after maturity. Despite submitting all necessary documents, the firm neglected her requests multiple times. The consumer forum directed Sahara India Limited to pay the complainant the amount with 9% annual interest, as they failed to appear before the commission and provide a written response. The forum deemed the firm’s actions as negligence and unfair trade practice, and ordered them to pay the full amount with interest from June 2020. The complainant faced challenges with the Sahara Online Portal when attempting to claim the refund, but the forum ruled in her favor.
