In Kamala Harris’ ancestral village of Thulasendrapuram in southern India, a Hindu priest led prayers for her victory in the US presidential election. The ceremony was attended by local villagers and a few tourists, with special offerings made for Harris’ success. Harris’ maternal grandfather was born in Thulasendrapuram before moving to Chennai, and the village has shown its support for her with prayers and banners. Visitors from around the world also joined in the prayers, showing their support for Harris. Similar prayers were held in Madurai as well. The results of the election are still unknown, with Harris and her opponent Donald Trump in a close race.
