A notorious criminal named Kakkathope Balaji was killed in a police encounter near Vyasarpadi Jeeva railway station in Chennai. Balaji, who was wanted in over 40 criminal cases, including extortion and murder, tried to escape and attacked the police team, injuring one officer. In retaliation, the police opened fire and Balaji was fatally wounded. He was declared dead at the hospital. Balaji had a history of violent crimes and had been hiding underground to avoid capture.
