Regulator Drugs Controller General of India finds 49 drug samples not of standard quality

The Indian drugs regulator has directed manufacturers of 49 medicines to recall their products due to being “not of standard quality”. Four spurious drugs have also been identified and action is being taken against their makers. Samples that were found to be substandard included painkillers, antifungals, and diabetes drugs. Not of Standard Quality (NSQ) drugs are those that do not meet quality standards. The drugs controller tests thousands of samples monthly and recalls are initiated as soon as issues are identified. Recommendations for legal or administrative action depend on the severity of non-compliance. Some of the affected drugs include metronidazole tablets, oxytocin injection, and various other medications manufactured by different companies.
