Putin says talks with Ukraine possible, but not with Zelensky

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia could hold peace talks with Ukraine but refused to speak directly with President Volodymyr Zelensky, calling him “illegitimate.” Zelensky responded by accusing Putin of being afraid of negotiations and prolonging the conflict. US President Donald Trump has pressured both sides to end the fighting, claiming Zelensky is willing to negotiate. Putin suggested that negotiations could proceed without Zelensky, while Zelensky warned against exclusion from talks. Putin also claimed that the conflict would end quickly if the West cut support to Ukraine. The Russian army captured a village in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, continuing its military offensive. Ukrainian forces have struggled against Russian troops, leading to changes in leadership within the Ukrainian military.
