Supporters of the All Assam Student’s Union celebrated the Supreme Court’s judgment on the Assam Accord by bursting crackers near Swahid Niyasin in Guwahati. The verdict upheld the validity of Section 6A of the Citizenship Act, granting Indian citizenship to immigrants who arrived in Assam between 1966 and 1971. The AASU hailed the decision as a victory for the Assam movement and demanded full implementation of the Accord. Political parties welcomed the judgment, with senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad calling it a historic verdict. Congress Deputy Leader Gaurav Gogoi praised the Accord for bringing peace to the state.
