The Karnataka High Court recently dismissed a PIL calling for a separate flag for the state, stating that such matters do not fall within the court’s jurisdiction. The petitioner argued that an expert committee had recommended a separate flag, but the court disagreed. In 2017, a panel was formed to explore the adoption of a state flag, and a new design was unveiled in 2018. However, the proposal to include the design in the Emblems and Names Act was not pursued by subsequent governments. The state has had an unofficial red-and-yellow flag since the 1960s, widely recognized by the people.
