The government of Karnataka has once again rejected the K Kasturirangan report on eco-sensitive zones in the Western Ghats and has requested the Centre to permanently withdraw the notification to implement the report. The state government cited concerns about the impact on the livelihoods of people residing in the Western Ghats region if the recommendations were to be implemented. The government has consistently rejected the report over the past decade and has urged the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change to consider the hardships faced by the residents of the region before implementing any measures.
