The Telangana government has revealed that 171 water bodies within the Outer Ring Road of Hyderabad have been encroached upon in the past 10 years. These lakes, originally spread over 3,586.12 acres, have been encroached upon by over 386 acres, worth several thousands of crores. Some lakes in various areas have been fully encroached upon, while others have been partially occupied. The Telangana Remote Sensing Application Centre has compared satellite images from 2014 to 2023 to track the encroachment. The extent of encroachment is significant, with many lakes completely disappearing due to constructions.
