Now Finance Dept Nod Must For Bills Over 5l | Thiruvananthapuram News

The state government in Thiruvananthapuram has tightened treasury control by reducing the limit for bill clearance without restrictions from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. This means that even local bodies will now need approval from the finance department for bills exceeding Rs 5 lakh. This could potentially cause delays in payments and bring the state administration to a standstill. The government had requested to borrow an additional Rs 5,000 crore for Onam expenses, but the Centre granted permission for Rs 4,200 crore. With a financial crisis looming, the state finance department is concerned about meeting salary, pension, and pending bill payments. In response, the state government has decided to resize the State Plan to focus only on essential projects.
