The National Commission for Scheduled Castes has sent a notice to the Tambaram police commissioner regarding the murder of a scheduled caste hotel employee. The commission expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of response to a previous communication regarding the inclusion of provisions of the SC/ST Act in the murder case. The police have been directed to send an official not less than an assistant commissioner to appear before the commission with all relevant documents. The murder occurred in March, and the family of the victim has petitioned the NCSC to intervene and ensure that the SC/ST Act is included in the case since the accused are non-dalits.
